History of the Fox & Coney

South Cave is a village in East Yorkshire, some 13 miles west of Hull and approximately 12 miles south west of the market town of Beverley.

The history of village can be dated as far back as the 1086 Domesday book. It is now a thriving, community lead village of some 1400 houses with amenities ranging from a primary school, doctors, hotel and numerous shops and two public houses.

Lying at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds it has an enviable semi-rural location with good access via the A63 to other major cities within Yorkshire.

The Fox and Coney was originally built in 1739 as a coaching inn. The pub was a popular stop off for coaches and carriers travelling between Hull, Thorne and Selby.

Historically, the pub was often used to hold meetings such as land auctions in the 1800’s, Coroner’s Courts and Constables’ meetings.

As recently as the 1990’s rooms were added to offer bed and breakfast accommodation.
